I just talked to the Contractor and we should have the roadway on the 100 Block of S. Gay Street reopened in the morning. I will post more details later.
Update: The 100 Block of S. Gay Street is now open as of 8:30 this morning.

Drove through this morning, and it looks marvelous. Job well done.
ReplyDeleteAs a business employee on the 100 Block of S. Gay Street I've been literally monitoring the progress first hand since the beginning many months ago.
ReplyDeleteToday I noticed they were opening the street up as I was walking into work and found myself happy to have made it through all of the construction! All in all I think the first day has gone smoothly, but the only major flaw I can see is the commercial loading zone is filled with non-commercial vehicles already. Was this area not suppose to be cross-hatched off with paint to denote a "non-parking" zone?
Thanks for the comments. It will be up to KPD to patrol the commercial loading zones for those parked illegally. As many comments as I have heard about folks getting ticketed for parking violations on the block, that should not be a problem. We don't typically stripe off loading zones for no parking, as I understand it.
ReplyDeleteI live on both sides of the 100 block, (Sterchi and my girlfriend's apartment across the street). I've had a great view of the progress and eventual opening of the street, great job on everybody's part! One request, however: any chance of putting in a cross walk (maybe from Nama to Sterchi)? Seems to me traffic has been a bit "speedy" for the scope/size of the street, considering the wider sidewalks and narrow-ish street design I thought were intended to slow the flow of traffic. I especially foresee this being an issue when more retail moves in and more folks are shopping up and down the street. Just a thought (not a complaint). Again, great job, the street looks great!
